Artist’s Statement

I began painting on glass several years ago while still in college. I was drawn to this technique because it gave me a new medium and a new canvas with which I could work. When I paint, I am able to relax, create, and amuse myself as well as those who see my work.
I have always been a fan of Henri Matisse and his bold use of color in paintings and collages. The work that I do and the sample pieces on this web site demonstrate my own passion for color. From the flowers, to the women, to the salt and pepper shakers, color is central to the work.
My work with glass plates arose while I was experimenting with the technique of reverse painting. By painting on the backs of the plates, they could then be used for dinnerware as well as works of art. At the same time I was also preparing for an all women artist show and sought a whimsical way to illustrate women in all of our creativity, mystery, and passion. The series “Girl Talk” went into the art show, and continues to provide me with inspiration.
I continue to seek new ways to use color and the clear glass on which I paint. I hope my work will inspire and amuse you in the ways it has for me.
